Tennessee Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker saw his magical 2022 season and his UT career end in November when he tore his ACL in a loss to South Carolina.
The injury likely prevented Hooker from being named a Heisman finalist (though he should've been anyway).
Hooker's injury could also impact his draft status.
The torn ACL won't keep Hooker from getting drafted, but it could cause him to drop further than he should. Teams don't like to invest heavily in players that might not be ready for their rookie season.
Fortunately for Hooker, it sounds like his rehab is going well. And he could be back on the field sooner than expected.
The Greensboro, NC native is at the Senior Bowl in Alabama this week and he spoke to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero about his recovery.
Hooker told Pelissero that he's already off crutches and he's hoping to start running by the end of March. Hooker also said he will be ready for training camp while adding that he believes he's the best player in the draft.
It's certainly great to see that Hooker's recovery is going well. It's also nice to see that he hasn't lost his confidence.
Hooker's been doubted a lot in his career — from his time at Virginia Tech to his status as a draft prospect. I have a feeling he's going to carry that chip on his shoulder into the NFL and end up being a steal for whichever team drafts him.
