The Tennessee Titans have some decisions to make this offseason and one of those decisions is whether or not Todd Downing will return as the franchise's offensive coordinator in 2023.

Downing took over playcalling duties for the Titans in 2021 after serving as the team's tight ends coach the previous two seasons.

In 2020, which was Arthur Smith's final season as Tennessee's offensive coordinator, the Titans had the No. 4 scoring offense in the NFL.

Last season, the Titans' scoring offense fell to No. 15 in the NFL. And this season, Tennessee finished with the No. 28 scoring offense in the league.

It's easy to see why a large portion of the fanbase is ready to move on from Downing.

Of course, moving on from Downing is the easy part. The Titans then would have to identify who should replace him.

There will obviously be a ton of options, but one option that makes a lot of sense is currently an assistant for the Buffalo Bills.

Joe Brady, the Bills' quarterbacks coach, will almost certainly be an offensive coordinator for an NFL team next season. And the Titans would be wise to consider hiring him.

Brady became a nationally known name when he helped take LSU's offense from the No. 38 scoring offense in college football in 2018 to maybe the best offense the sport has ever seen in 2019.

LSU hired Brady away from the New Orleans Saints, where he was serving as an offensive assistant, before the 2019 season.

Former Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron was looking for someone who could take LSU's offense to the next level and he felt like Brady and his knowledge of RPOs (run-pass options) would be a perfect choice.

Orgeron turned out to be correct. Under Brady's watch, current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and former LSU star Joe Burrow went from a middle-of-the-road SEC starting quarterback to a bonafide superstar and eventual No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Brady's innovative usage of RPOs blended with a vertical passing attack made the Tigers' offense nearly unstoppable.

After a year in Baton Rouge, Brady joined the Carolina Panthers' staff as Matt Rhule's offensive coordinator. Things didn't go well in Charlotte and Brady was eventually fired, but that's not something that should be held against him. Rhule's tenure in Carolina was a disaster. Brady was essentially a scapegoat for Rhules' failures (which were partially a result of his meddling).

The Bills hired Brady this past offseason to serve as their quarterbacks coach and the players in Buffalo absolutely love him.

They think he's a pretty good coach, too.

“He is so freaking smart,” said Bills backup quarterback Case Keenum recently (via BuffaloNews.com). “He is really, really good at studying and knowing defenses, how to attack them and how to communicate that. He gives us a lot of information in a short amount of time. He does a good job of doing it simply, but effectively and comprehensively at the same time. That’s impressive.”

Brady has always been known as a great communicator. Part of the reason is because he's the same age as many of the players he's coaching.

“I think he’s very hip,” said Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen. “He gets the lingo, he gets the jokes that we talk about.”

“He does such a good job in keeping the morale up and always being the same guy and (having) the same energy every time we step into that quarterback room,” added Allen. “We appreciate that about him.”

The Titans need someone who will be innovative and help change the culture on the offensive side of the ball. Hiring Brady, a guy who was getting head coach interviews after the 2020 season, could be a sneaky under-the-radar move that helps Tennessee's offense improve significantly in 2023.
