In less than 24 hours after being let go, former Dallas Cowboys Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore has found a new landing spot.
After being in Dallas for nearly a decade, Moore is taking his talents out west. Joining the LA Chargers as their new OC.
Moore first joined the Cowboys in 2015 in a trade from the Detroit Lions, becoming the backup quarterback until retiring in 2017. Spending one season (2018) as the QB coach before being promoted to OC from 2019-22.
In his four seasons as OC, Moore's offense continuously ranked among the best in the league. Ranking first, 14th, first and 11th in total yardage plus sixth, 17th, first and fourth. The Cowboys biggest dip being in 2020 after QB Dak Prescott broke his leg.
The issues of Moore's offense arose when faced with adversity against defensive gameplans that stifled the initial intent. Often resorting to conservative offensive approaches, a lack of creativity and predictability in play calling as well as down and distances.
He now joins the QB Justin Herbert in what looks to be one of the emerging offenses in the AFC. Filling in for former OC Joe Lombardi in the West following the Chargers first playoff appearance since 2018, following a four-touchdown collapse in the Wild Card round.
The Dallas Cowboys are already going ahead with HC Mike McCarthy calling plays in 2023. It is still unknown who or when the current Cowboys OC position will be filled.
