The Dallas Cowboys are changing things up in their coaching room yet again.
Having already let a number of assistant coaches go, they are making another move with one of their coordinators.
Unlike Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn returning, the Cowboys have decided to part ways with their Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore. Head Coach Mike McCarthy will call plays in 2023.
Moore has been with the Cowboys since 2015. Being traded by the Detroit Lions to become the backup quarterback. Subsequently retiring from playing to become the QB coach (2018) for one season before becoming the full-time Offensive Coordinator from 2019-22.
The high's of which saw QB Dak Prescott go from a short yardage, dependent passer with very little creativity in the play calling to one of the most prolific passers in the league.
The lows were that of a predictable offense that lacked creativity and often became conservative (i.e. Jason Garrett) when faced with adversity.
Moore was up for the Carolina Panthers HC position before being taken by Frank Reich. Now Moore will likely be sought after by a number of college programs, with a few NFL OC positions still available as well.
A necessary move, gaining a large number of yards per game and often scoring at will against inferior opponents was what made Moore such a hot commodity. However, his inability to adjust when faced against some of the top defenses have been a constant criticism these last two season.
The Dallas Cowboys go into the offseason with Mike McCarthy calling plays for the offense. Something he did while in Green Bay from 2006-15, winning a Super Bowl and making three conference championship appearances.
There are still a number of positional moves that need to be made on the offense. Good news is the Dallas Cowboys are recognizing issues and at least making the necessary moves to correct them.
Positive signs for the future?
