Going into Week 18, the Dallas Cowboys still had a shot at the NFC East crown and a top playoff seed, with some help. However, the Cowboys had to handle their business against the Washington Commanders or all of that would be irrelevant.

The Cowboys certainly came into their season finale with a game plan, but it didn't work, at all. Dallas fell to 12-5 on the season after a 26-6 loss.

One of the Cowboys' most respected veterans, right guard Zack Martin, didn't hold back his frustration after the loss to Washington and gave his teammates and himself a gut check.

“We do this again, we’ll be sitting at home next week," Martin said.

The Cowboys' defense kept the game within seven points until late in the third quarter. The problem was that offensively the Cowboys only converted four of the 18 attempts on third down, didn't establish the run, and had 10 drives end in three-and-outs. Also, Dak Prescott saw his turnover woes continue with another interception that was taken back for a score.

Martin's words should ring bells throughout the Cowboys' locker room. Dallas finished the season going 2-2 in their final four games, and although they had already locked up a playoff spot before Sunday, it was important to come out and establish a rhythm, especially offensively, and they failed.

Dallas hits the road next weekend in the first round of the playoffs to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Facing Tom Brady, in the postseason, is the ultimate challenge, and the Cowboys come into the game after laying an egg against an inferior opponent.

Of course, this doesn't mean that the Cowboys won't go into Tampa next week and play good football, they are more than capable. However, if their performance is anything like what was seen on Sunday, Martin's words will become a reality.
