It is official now. As soon as the game ended, Chad Henne, the guy that has helped the Chiefs out more than anyone outside the fan base will ever know, announced on Instagram that he will not be returning to the field.
Fans of other teams may not realize just how important Henne was, because, well, he was a backup quarterback. But, over the last few years, he came in when Mahomes was hurt and played amazingly.
The phrase "Hennething is possible," started two seasons ago as Mahomes had a concussion and Henne had to finish the playoff game against Cleveland.
He made spectacular plays time and time again to get the win.
And then three weeks ago, when Mahomes first got the ankle injury. Henne came in and led the team to a 98-yard touchdown drive in yet another playoff game.
He posted after the big win over the Eagles that he was going out as a champion. As sad as it will be to see him go, he deserves to go out as a champion.
Chiefs fans will miss having a pro backup Mahomes next year.
