The Pittsburgh Steelers might not have a game scheduled for this weekend, but there are plenty of reasons to feel good about the future. But let's stick with the top two reasons why for now.

  1. Kenny Pickett. The Steelers have a quarterback to work with.
  2. Pickett has weapons!

Pittsburgh definitely needs to work on the offensive line but they've given Kenny Pickett good weapons to work with, including young players like tight end Pat Freiermuth and wide receiver George Pickens.

And believe me when I tell you that it is a scary duo. In fact, both Steelers rookies even led the NFL in QBR by ANY quarterback targeting ANY wide receiver this season (minimum 50 of 50 attempts).

We're not talking about a rookie stat here, but a league-wide one. The Steelers offense appears to be in very good hands.

Pickett showed tremendous chemistry with his rookie teammate and consistently trusted him to make contested catches.

From Week 4 on (when Pickett took over at QB), Pickens averaged 53 receiving yards per game and over 15 yards per reception. In that span, Píckens was targeted 72 times and caught 47 passes for 736 yards and four touchdowns. The Steelers rookie also rushed for a touchdown.

Moving forward, Matt Canada or whoever ends up as Steelers offensive coordinator must find ways to expand the ways in which Pickens deals damage. His skill set is that of an X-receiver who can win one-on-ones outside but can they make Pickens somewhat of the "easy button" on offense as well?

We'll find out. For now, the NFL has taken notice. And I can guarantee you that opposing defensive coordinators will be treating these two as the priority every week.
