The dust is beginning to settle following Justin Fields’ second season with the Chicago Bears. Over the last week, there have been numerous current and former players speak out in favor of the Bears’ 23-year-old signal caller.
The latest to join the list is Chicago Bears safety Adrian Colbert. Colbert has spent six seasons in the NFL with six different teams. In 2022, Colbert played in two games with the Bears.
Though he didn’t see much action this season, Colbert has 41 games of NFL experience, starting in 22 contests. As a journey man, Colbert has played across from a handful of different quarterbacks since he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Though Fields is in the beginning stages of his NFL career, Colbert likens his mindset to that of a veteran player.
“Justin Fields is a very, very special player. A great teammate,” Colbert told Daniel Greenberg.
“The details in Justin Fields’ approach to the game, from his diet to the time he puts in studying is something you see in players down the line in their careers. If there’s one player that I’m excited for (in 2024) its No. 1.”
Bears fans know that Fields is as competitive as quarterbacks come,. He’s dedicated to doing whatever helps his team win football games. That was evidenced by his willingness to play in meaningless games late in the season while dealing with injuries.
Fields’ second-year leap should encourage Bears fans ahead of what most anticipate to be one of Chicago’s most exciting offseasons in recent memory. Figuring out the quarterback is the tough part, now general manager Ryan Poles is tasked with building a team around him.
