The Kansas City Chiefs and their head coach have a chance to do something they have never done. I mean really, they have a chance to do something that has only been done by two other coaches in league history.
With a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday in the divisional round, something that is easier said than done, the Chiefs will have made it to five straight AFC Championship games. That means since Mahomes has been the starter, the Chiefs have never not made it to the round before the Super Bowl.
But, a big reason why is because of their legendary coach, Andy Reid.
Let's just start with some background information. Reid is the league's best coach right now, behind Belichick, and I don't think anyone would dispute that. He came from the Philadelphia Eagles before coaching the Chiefs, where he was also very successful.
What he can do on Saturday cements his legacy even more. He has the chance to do something that only two other coaches have.
Per NFL Communications:
Head coach Andy Reidhas led Kansas City to each of the past four AFC Championship Games, after leading Philadelphia to five NFC Championship Games earlier in his career. With a win on Saturday, he will become the third head coach in NFL history to appear in 10 Conference Championships, joining Bill Belichick (13) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Tom Landry(10).
Even if you haven't been watching or following football for very long, you know these names. These are some of the greatest coaches of all time, guys who have multiple rings. I'm sure Reid would be honored to be in the same conversation as the two.
But, the thing is, he deserves it. He has built what the Chiefs currently have. He is the reason the Chiefs have built back up this consistency of winning.
