One of the positions of need when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason is strengthening their cornerback room.

Trevon Diggs had another Pro Bowl year in 2022, and rookie DaRon Bland far exceeded expectations by leading the team with five interceptions. But Anthony Brown and Jourdan Lewis suffered season-ending injuries, and the former is an unrestricted free agent, while the latter will be in the same boat next year.

The NFL draft is where the Cowboys do most of their off-season maneuvering. Respected analyst Lance Zierlein has the Cowboys addressing their cornerback need in the first round with Deonte Banks out of Maryland.

"Banks has issues playing with his back to the ball, but he has great size (6-2, 205). Also, he possesses the fluidity and strength to play in any coverage the Cowboys ask of him."

Banks certainly fits the Cowboys' mold from a size standpoint. On top of that, his ability to play press man-to-man and zone coverage certainly gives him a nice tool bag to work with.

In the NFL, you can never have too many cornerbacks. After the Cowboys failed attempts to find anything substantial outside of Diggs and Bland once Brown and Lewis went down besides Israel Mukuamu who showed some juice, grabbing a guy like Banks to develop would be another solid building block at cornerback in Dallas.
