The Philadelphia Eagles finally clinched the number one seed, even though we all thought they would last week. But, things happen, this is the NFL and anyone can beat anyone.
The win Sunday was a win nonetheless. But, there were so many things the Eagles could have done better in this one, and even they know that. This may have been their worst win of the season, if that makes sense.
Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni knows that too.
"Winning pretty is not a priority," Sirianni said post-game. "…You're going to win some ugly. You're going to lose some. We know the last two weeks wasn't up to our standard, and even today. …But winning in this league is hard to do, and we won't apologize for that."
There were some things that factored into this game as to why the Eagles played so badly. Well, there was one big reason that could be why they played so badly.
This was Jalen Hurts' first game back from injury, who hadn't played since Week 15. So, the offense has been playing with Minshew, who is a completely different quarterback. Hurts has been dealing with a shoulder injury, and it's fair to say he may have been a bit rusty. I mean, either that or his shoulder was still bothering him.
"It's not like he was perfect out there as far as what he felt like," Sirianni continued. "We didn't feel like there was more risk, but I know he was hurting. He was hurting badly. And that's the kind of competitor he is."
If you ask Hurts though, he felt "good enough," as he said after the game.
The pass rush wasn't as good as we expected it to be either. There were so many things that could have been better. I mean, the Giants basically didn't play any starters, yet the Eagles did, and only won 22-16 at home.
No, not every game will be pretty. But, games like this, with the circumstances their opponent has, should look a whole lot better than what we saw.
