The Tennessee Titans are still in search a new offensive coordinator.
The Todd Downing era is officially over, and fans are ready for a fresh face at play caller. He was one of multiple staff firings for the Titans at the start of this off-season for them.
There have been a plethora of reported candidates to be the new OC over the past couple of weeks. Tim Kelly, Eric Bienemy, and Matt Nagy are a few of the potential candidates for Tennessee. The list doesn't stop there, though, and it will keep growing until they finalize a deal with someone.
Today, some surprising news broke out of Dallas.
The Cowboys and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore agreed to part ways. Moore, 34, is one of the youngest play-callers in NFL history.
He began his NFL coaching career as the quarterbacks coach in Dallas in 2018. In 2019, he was elevated to offensive coordinator. Over the past couple of off-seasons, Moore emerged as a potential head coach candidate for a handful of openings.
Nothing ever cemented, so he continued to be the OC for the Cowboys. The results were a bit of a mixed bag.
By the numbers, the Cowboys have been one of the better offenses in the NFC when QB Dak Prescott has been healthy. Moore's first two seasons with Dallas were really impressive, and he caught fire around the league.
That being said, the offense has had issues at times in the past two years. Especially in the postseason, they haven't done their best work.
Accordingly, the Cowboys wanted to go in a new direction at play-caller as HC Mike McCarthy is set to take over that duty.
For the Titans, Moore could be an intriguing candidate.
He's young and flashy. He's worked with a talented, youthful receiver in CeeDee Lamb before. Treylon Burks needs to take steps like Lamb has over the past couple of seasons.
Not to mention, Moore's best work in Dallas came when their running game was running on all cylinders with Ezekiel Elliott at the helm.
Derrick Henry is arguably the best RB in the league, so balance is never an issue with the Titans. The combo could make a lot of sense for Tennessee.
It'll be interesting to see if the Titans interview him for their offensive coordinator opening this week.
