The Kansas City Chiefs will have a problem defending one of the best parts of the Eagles' offense – the run game. The Eagles have been one of the better-rushing teams on the year, and are actually fifth in rushing on the year.
The Chiefs, on the other hand, are the eighth-best at defending the run. They allow just 107.24 yards per game on the ground, while the Eagles rush for 146.6.
Either way, the Chiefs know exactly what to expect.
“Yeah, the talent is in the players, number one," Chiefs' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said. "The scheme, number two, and then when you put a quarterback in there that can do the things that he (Eagles QB Jalen Hurts) can do that makes it really tough to defend. Any time you’re asked to defend – let’s not count the offensive line for right now – six of them that can run it or can get the ball, it’s tougher than just the five.
"You know some quarterbacks we play are not going to run the football so you take that out of your thinking, the pass rush is a little bit different, maybe the edge run support’s a little bit different but when the quarterback can do what this quarterback can do it brings it a lot more different issues. You’ve got to be on point with scheme, the players got to be on point with responsibility and you can see when that doesn’t happen and with people that they’ve played they expose them.”
The Eagles have beaten some really good defenses this year by running the ball. They had games where all they did was run the ball. They have the ability to take over games that way.
And when I say run game, it isn't just the running backs, it's the designed runs for Jalen Hurts, who, outside of a healthy Lamar Jackson, is the best running quarterback in the league. Hurts has 13 rushing touchdowns this season, with 760 rushing yards.
The Chiefs will have a different element they have to defend on Sunday.
