The Philadelphia Eagles' defense has been great at times this year, but their pass rush has been elite all year. So much so, that the defensive coordinator made a bold statement about one star player on that side of the ball that we would all love to see.
The pass rush is breaking franchise records and is close to breaking the single-season record of sacks by a team. They have by far the best pass rush on the year and a huge reason why is because of Haason Reddick, who has 16 sacks.
Reddick was a free-agent acquisition and a Philly native, but has been tearing it up and is looking to be worth every single penny.
He has been so good, that defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon made somewhat of a bold statement about him. Well, it wasn't somewhat of a bold statement, it was a bold statement.
When being asked about how he feels about Reddick's play and the 16 sacks, Gannon said this:
“He would have 25 if I didn’t have him drop so much.”
By that, Gannon means if he didn't drop Reddick back into coverage as much, Reddick would have 25 sacks, which would be 3 more than the single-season record held by Michael Strahan.
Reddick has been very good, but I don't know about 25 sacks. I mean, hey, that would be awesome though, and then I think it would be time to start talking about the best defensive player in the league, and eventually all time.
