The Tennessee Vols lost true freshman quarterback Tayven Jackson to the transfer portal on Friday and the former four-star recruit already has a new home.

Jackson announced on Sunday afternoon that he's transferring to Indiana.

Jackson was set to compete this spring with redshirt senior Joe Milton and five-star signee Nico Iamaelava for the Vols' starting quarterback job. The expectation was that Milton would win the job, though Jackson was certainly capable of making the quarterback competition interesting.

The decision by Jackson to transfer to Indiana doesn't come as a surprise. Jackson is an Indiana native and the Hoosiers were the most realistic destination for him (USF would've made sense as well with former Vols offensive coordinator Alex Golesh now leading that program).

Tennessee is down to just two scholarship quarterbacks with Jackson heading home to Indiana. I suspect they'll look for a quarterback in the portal, but it could be difficult to find someone willing to be the third-string quarterback.

If the Vols can't find a quarterback in the portal, then former UCF transfer Gaston Moore, who has a good understanding of Josh Heupel's offensive system, will likely be Tennessee's No. 3 quarterback. Moore was an unrated prospect coming out of Hilton Head High School in 2020.
