The most exclusive group in the world just might be the NFL’s quarterback fraternity. After his second season in the league, Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields plans to pick the brains of some of the greatest signal callers to play the game.

Fields demonstrated growth in his first full season as Chicago’s starter. However, Fields knows he still has a ways to go as a passer. In order to maximize his talents as quickly as possible, Fields has reached out the Bears’ arch nemesis, Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.

“I try to get guys’ opinions. After the game, our offensive coordinator (Luke Getsy), last year he was with Green Bay, so I reached out to him and grabbed Aaron’s number," Fields said on SiriusXM's NFL Radio.

Bears fans wince at the mention of Rodgers’ name, but when it comes to playing quarterback, there are few in the NFL’s history that can hold a candle to his game. That being said, Rodgers isn’t the only all-time great Fields plans to meet with this offseason.

Dual Threat Legends

“Old quarterbacks like Cam Newton just kind of picking their ears and stuff like that. Coach Flus, he actually met Steve Young, so I’m excited to link up with him. Just get to talk to him about different stuff about the quarterback position. So, I’m very excited.”

Fields has a similar set of talents to those which made Newton and Young two of the greatest dual threat quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen. Young’s championship pedigree with three Super Bowl wins could give Fields an idea of the mentality that it takes to lead a team deep in the postseason.

Newton was no slouch in his own right. In fact, many could credit the former Panthers great for reinventing the way the quarterback position is played. Newton paved the way for mobile quarterbacks like Fields, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts and even Josh Allen.

It’s clear that Fields is building a network that can help speed up his development. Not only as a passer, but as a leader as well. The 2023 offseason will be one of the most important in Chicago’s recent history. It’s paramount that Fields can capitalize off of the momentum from his 2022 regular season.
