Kicker Brett Maher is in his third stint with the Dallas Cowboys. In his second one, from 2018 through the 2019 season, Maher missed 17 field goals.

Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Maher reverted to his old ways. He missed a postseason-record four extra points, but fortunately, the Cowboys won the game comfortably.

During one of Maher's misses, quarterback Dak Prescott showed his frustration by slamming his helmet down and saying the Cowboys should attempt two-point conversions for the rest of the game. However, he showed the leader he is when asked about it after the game.

"I'm 'Money' Maher's biggest fan," said Prescott. "Obviously, I've been shown the video of me, it's just emotions, that's part of it. I talked to him individually, just told him after the game to let that go we're going to need him. I just played like s— a week ago, I mean, that happens. But when you believe in each other, you believe in what we're capable of doing, and knowing what that guy has done, with the resiliency he's shown throughout his career personally, no doubt he'll come back next week and be perfect and help us win."

Prescott's belief in Maher isn't surprising.

During the regular season, Maher made 29 of his 32 field goal attempts (90.6%) and 50 of his 53 extra point tries (94.3%). This includes a 60-yard field me made against the Minnesota Vikings, his fourth made field goal of 60 yards or more which is the most in NFL history.

It's easy for players to stand in front of reporters and celebrate when they play well. However, after a performance like this, players have to face the music also, and Maher did that after the game.

“Definitely didn’t do my part tonight,” Maher said. “This team is too good moving forward for me to have to do that. Just get back at it this week.”

Prescott isn't the only member of the Cowboys organization that is backing up Maher. Owner Jerry Jones said the Cowboys won't look for another kicker based on Maher's history. Also, special teams coordinator, John Fassel, made it clear his thoughts on if Maher would be kicking in the second round versus the San Francisco 49ers.

“Hell yeah, if you ask me. Absolutely," Fassel said.

This is exactly what Maher needs. Having teammates, coaches, and ownership telling him that he's still their guy and that he's important to the Cowboys' success going forward.
