The Chicago Bears are coming off a 3-14 season, but there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.
Justin Fields emerged as a QB, and there were flashes of progress from many young players. The Bears also are in a great position to improve their roster during the offseason.
The Bears will have eight picks in the upcoming draft, including the No. 1 overall pick.
Below is a list of the Bear's picks:
- Round 1, Pick 1
- Round 2, Pick 56 (from BAL)
- Round 3, Pick 65
- Round 4, Pick 103
- Round 4, Pick 134 (from PHI)
- Round 5, Pick 136
- Round 5, Pick 149 (from NE)
- Round 7, Pick 220
Per Over The Cap, the Bears won't receive any compensatory picks in 2023.
The key to the entire draft will be what the Bears decide to do with their first pick. While Justin Fields is coming off a great second season, some believe the Bears could trade Fields and draft a QB with the first overall pick. Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud are considered the top QB prospects in this class, so it will be up to Ryan Poles to decide if he thinks they are better prospects than Fields.
The Bears traded their original second-round pick to the Steelers for WR Chase Claypool. Claypool was relatively quiet after the trade but should be a big piece of the Bear's offense moving forward.
The Bears still have a second-round pick, as they acquired the Ravens' 2023 second-round pick and a fifth-round pick in exchange for linebacker Roquan Smith.
The Ravens also have an extra fourth-round pick they acquired from the Eagles in exchange for Robert Quinn.
The only round the Bears will not select in is the sixth round, as they traded their sixth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for WR Jakeen Grant.
The Bears are also in a great position regarding the salary cap. According to Spotrac, the Bears will enter the offseason with the most cap space in the NFL, with $97,786,266 available.
Between the draft and free agency, there is no reason the Bears can't be one of the most improved teams in the NFL as soon as next season.
