Following the end of the 2022 season, the Miami Dolphins headed for free agency. With an imminent need at running back.

Before the conclusion, there were four on the roster: Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed. The first three are now unrestricted free agents, Ahmed being restricted.

So what's the plan?

Head Coach Mike McDaniel's offense is highly predicated on the running game. Using multiple backs to create an outside zone concept.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins are limited in their options. In free agency, they are currently in the 'red'. $16 million over the cap. Does that stop them from being exploratory?

Reportedly they're attached to Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs. Set to hit free agency from a team who's influx with an estimated value between $12-$15 million per year.

If they don't want to pay that price tag, other (cheaper) upgrades include James Robinson, D'Onta Forman and Samaje Perine.  As well as other 'splash' signings including Miles Sanders, Devin Singletary, Tony Pollard or Kareem Hunt.

Likely, the Dolphins will only retain one of their three unsigned running backs. Mostert is coming off a career year. Wilson finished with the most rushing yards (combined) following his trade from San Francisco. Gaskin will be the cheapest of the players but is coming off a shortened season, ending on IR.

This year's NFL Draft is considered one of the deepest it has been at RB in years. With the likes of Bijan Robinson, Jahmyr Gibbs and Deuce Vaughn, among others.

But Miami only has five picks and none in the first. Three in the top 100 overall.

The Miami Dolphins have options, which is the good news. However, with not much money to work with or draft capital, a position of need may soon be a position of opposition.
