In an effort to progress in their offseason, the Minnesota Vikings will need to get ready to address the defensive side of the ball.

Under new Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores, expect not only a heavy draft dedicated to one of the worst-ranked units in football, but the loss of many defensive starters as well.

Players like Za'Darius Smith, Harrison Smith, Eric Kendricks and Jordan Hicks are all among potential salary cap casualties. As well as free agent players such as Patrick Peterson, Garrett Bradbury and Irv Smith Jr.

One players there will be almost no speculation around is DT Dalvin Tomlinson.

After being reported earlier last week that the Vikings are not likely to re-sign the defensive tackle. In a further effort to extend All-Pro WR Justin Jefferson to a massive extension. Of which would make him the highest-paid receiver in the league.

A number of reasons being the elevated play of DT Harrison Phillips, as well as fellow free agent tackles Johnathan Bullard and Khyiris Tonga. A pair of DT's who each provided valuable snaps inside and who's combined re-signings would be less than Tomlinson's estimated free agency value.

In addition, Tomlinson's value as a run-stuffer didn't equate to his $10.5 million salary versus his out put. Aside from a number of splash plays, Tomlinson's true value was as a pass rusher.

Registering a 79.1 pass rush grade from PFF, with 14 QB pressures and 2.5 sacks. Rotating between the nose and 3-technique positions.

He still has value as a starter and pass rushing tackle but not to the point that the Minnesota Vikings can afford to re-sign him.

As stated earlier, expect a very defense-heavy draft. With free agency money going to the offense.
