The Chicago Bears have reported interest in one of the most unique prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft class.
The Bears have been preparing for the draft since just past the halfway mark of the 2022 regular season. While their decision with the first overall pick in late April’s event is garnering all of the attention, Chicago has its eyes on a late-round prospect.
Daniel Greenberg reports that numerous Bears scouts have spoken with UCLA product Kazmeir Allen. Projected as a Day Three prospect, Allen’s speed and versatility could help him make an immediate impact with whichever team winds up selecting him.
Allen logged snaps as a running back and wide receiver in his time at UCLA. His 49 receptions and 403 receiving yards ranked second on the team in 2022. He tacked on 203 rushing yards on just 15 carries for an impressive 13.5 yards per carry.
However at five-foot-nine, Allen’s speed is his most important asset. He was a standout return specialist with the Bruins who forced tacklers to defend every single blade of grass when he had the ball.
In fact, Allen was clocked at 28 miles per hour on a treadmill in a workout on Monday.
Chicago certainly has a need for a player with Allen’s attributes. Velus Jones Jr. was drafted in the third round of last year’s draft, but his rookie campaign was an overwhelming disappointment.
Perhaps a sixth-round flyer on Allen could help the Bears find an answer in the return game. Plus, a player with his athleticism would fit perfectly in OC Luke Getsy’s offense.
