TE Dalton Schultz, DB Donovan Wilson, RB Tony Pollard, LB Leighton Vander Esch just to name a few.
However, the MO of the Cowboys has and likely will continue to be through the NFL Draft. Being their primary means of team building for the better part of a decade. Opting instead to re-sign their own players in free agency, seek quality deals and focus on the draft.
Until the end of the free agency period, we won't know for sure which of the position the Dallas Cowboys will have a gaping hole at. However, even ahead of the event, we know their most glaring needs.
3) Cornerback
After both Jourdan Lewis and Anthony Brown both saw their seasons end due to injury, the Cowboys shifted players in and out to fill the obvious hole.
Nahshon Wright, Trayvon Mullen, Kelvin Joseph, Mackensie Alexander, Xavier Rhodes and Israel Mukuamu. With Mukuamu being the most effective.
Regardless of whether they retain Brown or not is irrelevant. It's obvious how much the Cowboys defense needs depth on the outside. Don't be surprised if it's the first position taken.
2) Offensive Line
The Cowboys have a number of offensive linemen set to hit free agency. Jason Peters, Connor McGovern and Terence Steele (restricted). With Tyron Smith still under contract, but could also have seen his last days on the Cowboys.
Tyler Smith had a very encouraging season at left tackle, Tyler Biadasz has come along well as a starting center and Zack Martin continues to be Zack Martin.
The effectiveness of the offensive line has been the tone setter for much of the Cowboys success. Having a pair of older, injury batted tackles, as well as two free agents to be leave the groups integrity into question.
Who comes back? Who do they let walk? Is it time to move on from others?
1) Wide Receiver
Obvious, right? Even worse when you see the numbers when NOT factoring in All-Pro CeeDee Lamb. The only Cowboys receiver to average at least 3.0+ yards per separation. The next closest being at a mere 2.4 Y/S.
Only 45.5% of the Cowboys receiving yards came at the wide receiver position. Which looks even worse considering it includes the output given from KaVontae Turpin, Simi Fehoko, Dennis Houston, Jalen Tolbert and James Washington.
Even with a career year from Noah Brown, and spots of who we know Michael Gallup to be, this is a position they will likely explore in free agency as well as the NFL Draft. Possibly the worst WR group in the NFL.
