That isn't out of the equation, even if most of us feel the Chiefs will win, most also respect the Eagles enough to know they can do some pretty big damage if you let them.
No, instead the thing that could give them a rough ride is the officiating. I hate to be that guy, but, honestly, both teams could have some pretty bad calls against them.
It has been reported that the head official for the 2022-2023 Super Bowl is indeed Chiefs' great Carl Cheffers. This is a guy that has tried his hardest to lose the Chiefs some pretty important games.
I'm completely kidding. Kind of.
Cheffers did officiate the Chiefs' Super Bowl loss two seasons ago in Tampa Bay. But, Kansas City lost that game fair and square as their obliterated offensive line allowed the Buccaneers' pass rush to put constant pressure on Mahomes.
But, he did ref the Chiefs' first game against the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this year, when Chris Jones was called for the unnecessary roughness hit on Derek Carr when he actually had a quarterback sack. We all remember that play pretty well.
After that game, more research was done. We started to realize Cheffers has a history of some pretty bad calls, not game-altering, but just bad calls, against the Chiefs.
There's the game against Pittsburgh that Travis Kelce recalls pretty well, and so on.
But, this will likely have no effect on if the Chiefs will win or lose the game, it will just make the ride and the journey that much rougher.
Just to kill the narrative that Cheffers just hates the Chiefs, I'll throw in that he also officiated the Super Bowl the Chiefs won three years ago.
So, I don't know if he actually dislikes the Chiefs, or if he is just a bad ref overall. This could make the game rough for both teams on Sunday.
