According to a recent report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers trading future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason is a very real possibility.
And if the Packers ended up trading Rodgers, we now know what kind of compensation they'd be asking for in return.
NBC Sports' Peter King suggested in his "Football Morning in America" column that Green Bay could want two first-round picks in exchange for Rodgers.
King noted that New York Jets owner Woody Johnson would "happily" pay that pride for Rodgers.
But King questions whether or not Rodgers would want to play for the Jets.
Remember, Rodgers can simply retire if he's traded to a team that's not to his liking.
I would guess that any team in the mix for Rodgers would want to make sure the quarterback is ok with being traded before pulling off any sort of deal.
I know there's a lot of talk this week surrounding a potential Rodgers trade. And I think all options truly are on the table for the Packers this offseason.
But my gut still says that Rodgers plays in Green Bay next season. There are just too many moving parts in a potential Rodgers trade. He's going to carry a large cap hit for any team that acquires him. Additionally, the Packers will still have to deal with a $40 million dead cap hit in 2023 if they trade him.
If Green Bay trades Rodgers, they'll essentially be waving the white flag on the 2023 season. I think a more likely scenario is that Jordan Love is traded, Randall Cobb and Robert Tonyan come back on one-year deals, and the Packers try to make one last championship run with Rodgers.
