For a team making its first playoff appearance since the 2016 season, the Miami Dolphins sure are loose heading into its Wild Card matchup with the Buffalo Bills.
The Dolphins are playing with house money this weekend. Head coach Mike McDaniel announced that starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will not be suiting up on Sunday. McDaniel revealed that the team is preparing for its third-string signal caller, Skylar Thompson, to get the start.
The rookie out of Kansas State was selected in the sixth round of the 2022 draft. With just two NFL starts under his belt, it would be easy for him to feel the pressure.
However, video from Thursday’s practice session showed quite the opposite. Thompson, along with back-up QB Teddy Bridgewater, were dancing through drills, appearing to really enjoy the preparation process.
It’s the perfect mindset for this team who, while being significantly banged up, has enough talent to give Buffalo a scare. If Miami’s defense can keep the Fins in the game, this big-play offense is capable of flipping the game on its side.
If Thompson can take care of the football, the Dolphins could catch the Bills, who are favored by 13 points, looking ahead to next week’s potential matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.
