Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles are set to take on Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl this weekend.
The matchup goes quite a bit deeper than the teams or even the players, though.
There's an intriguing backstory between Reid and Sirianni that many people may not realize. When Reid took the job in Kansas City, he actually fired Sirianni.
Sirianni was the Chiefs' wide receivers coach at the time. Sirianni had been there since 2009, but Reid had different plans for the staff.
Regardless, it worked out for the Eagles coach since he is now the head coach of an NFL team.
Sirianni was asked about that part of his career and his relationship with Reid on Tuesday.
"He (Reid) was very good to me in the sense that he brought me in to talk to me… He didn't have to do that.
Seems like that's the type of person he is, and i was grateful for that. I was grateful for that, even though you don't like it at the time…
You have an opportunity to, if your eyes are open, to learn from everybody that you see and everybody that you come in contact with.
And i used a little bit of what he, you know, how he did with me when i had to do the tough part of my job of letting guys go."
It is clear that Reid made an impact on Sirianni in a very short amount of time. There are no hard feelings whatsoever because he knows that the NFL is a business.
That being said, he is certainly determined to get the Eagles a Super Bowl victory over Reid's Chiefs this weekend.
