Cowboys named as a team that could trade for 6-time Pro Bowler
The Dallas Cowboys were recently named as a team that could trade for one of the NFL’s best players this offseason
Could the Dallas Cowboys be adding one of the best players in the NFL to their roster this offseason?
NFL.com thinks it could be an option.
Adam Schein recently pointed out nine teams that could potentially trade for six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey this offseason. The Cowboys were one of the teams that he listed among the nine options.
Remember, back in 2016, there was a lot of buzz that Dallas would select Ramsey with the No. 4 overall pick. In fact, Ramsey, who grew up a Cowboys fan, said on a podcast last offseason that Dallas brass told him prior to the draft that the team would take him if he were still on the board. He was, but the 'Boys opted for Ezekiel Elliott instead. It'd be pretty ironic if Dallas were to add Ramsey and subtracted Zeke this offseason. For all of the reasonable Dak Prescott criticism, Dallas' defense was good — but not truly great — this past season. Ramsey could change that. Pairing him with ballhawking cover man Trevon Diggs would give the Cowboys some real back-end juice to complement a front that just finished third in sacks.
The idea of pairing Ramsey with Trevon Diggs is exciting for Dallas fans.
But for that to happen, the Cowboys would need to be OK with giving the Los Angeles Rams either a late first-round pick or a package that includes multiple picks in later rounds (like a second-round and a third-round pick, for example).
Ramsey, a Nashville area native who turns 29 in October, is under contract through the 2025 season.
If the Cowboys trade for Ramsey, they'd owe him $17 million in 2023 ($12.5 million of that is fully guaranteed), $18.5 million in 2024, and $19.5 million in 2025.
Ramsey, however, could be looking for a new deal, which would add another layer to a potential trade.
