When you start getting praise from the general manager of the defending Super Bowl champions, a team that you play twice a year in the division, a team that has beaten you 15 straight times, it has to feel good heading into the 2023 offseason. Of course, the Denver Broncos have a ton of work to do, but that helps boost the confidence for sure.

The Chiefs know what they are doing when it comes to building a championship-winning team, as they have won two Super Bowls now in the last four years. So, to hear what Brett Veach, their general manager, said about the Broncos means maybe they are heading in that direction too.

“Well I mean, it’s funny because Denver started to turn the corner there right at the end of the season and played some really good football and now with (Broncos’ Head) Coach (Sean) Payton they’ll be even more dangerous, and I think (Broncos’ QB) Russell (Wilson) kind of got into a groove late," Veach said during the NFL Draft Combine.

"Our division is really tough, and I think that was one of the things that really helped us in our playoff run. I think you know playing the Chargers twice a year and the Raiders and the Broncos got off to a little bit of a slow start, but I think they played good football late. Certainly, Coach Payton only adds to the degree of difficulty of having to get through that. So, that will certainly be a challenge.”

Even though they only won one division game, the last game of the season against the Chargers, almost every game in the AFC West was close, even their two games against the Chiefs.

In their first matchup against Kansas City, the Chiefs went up by 21 points, and then the Broncos scored 21 straight. That was the first time we saw anything remotely close to a team with fight on the offensive side of the ball all season, and that was in Week 14.

You could see though that they definitely started getting better at the end of the season. The Broncos started being able to actually score points, which they struggled with all year long. Let's hope that Veach is right and this team does start to get more dangerous with Sean Payton now as the head coach.
