Bears sign LB T.J. Edwards to a three-year deal
The Chicago Bears wasted no time in free agency, locking up one of the most coveted players on the open market.
The Chicago Bears made the first major splash in the NFL’s free agency period. The Bears signed Eagles LB T.J. Edwards to a three-year deal worth $19.5 million
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first with the news.
To put this signing into the proper perspective, let’s take a look at the details surrounding the deal.
Base Salary
2023: $1.9 million
2024: $5.9 million
2025: $5.4 million
Edwards, 26, is due a $4.5 million signing bonus and will rack up $12,025,000 in total guarantees.
He is coming off of a career year with the Philadelphia Eagles in which he recorded 83 solo stops (6th in NFL) and 159 combined tackles (7th in NFL). He also added two sacks, 10 tackles for loss and seven passes defensed.
Head coach Matt Eberflus adds an impact player in the middle of the Bears’ defense, but it’s likely Chicago still has a few moves up its sleeve.
The Bears were clearly drawn to Edwards prior to the free agency period officially beginning. Chicago’s assistant GM Ian Cunningham has tied with him dating back to their days together in Philadelphia, which could have been the driving factor in this move.
