Jaguars can still get quality OT in free agency after Taylor departure
The Jaguars can still fix the issue they let loom during free agency after one of their best players left in free agency.
The Jacksonville Jaguars lost one of their best players in free agency, well, two of them. They lost Arden Key to their division rival in the Tennessee Titans, and they lost Jawaan Taylor to the Kansas City Chiefs, the team that eliminated them from the postseason.
Losing Taylor may be the bigger issue because that is the guy that protected Trevor Lawrence. He took a huge pay bump from the Chiefs and is going from right tackle, what he played in Jacksonville for the most part, to left tackle in Kansas City.
The Jaguars couldn't afford to pay Taylor what he wanted, and they didn't want to. Now, they need another right tackle, and they can still get that in free agency, as opposed to using a draft pick.
Here are three guys the Jaguars could still target in free agency at the tackle position that are still available, and are in the Jaguars' spending range, per Over the Cap.
George Fant, LT, Jets
Fant played for the Jets last year on an offensive line that wasn't terrible, but it definitely could have been better. Per Over the Cap, Fant's current APY is $9 million. Fant allowed five sacks last season in what wasn't an amazing year, but he wasn't terrible. Jawaan Taylor, who most people think is a great tackle, allowed the same amount of sacks. And, he played significant snaps at both left and right tackle.
Cameron Erving, RT, Panthers
This guy isn't the best choice, but he has a bit of history playing the right tackle position and has done it at a high level before on winning teams. He didn't play much last season, but in 76 snaps, he still had a 78.5 pass-blocking grade according to Pro Football Focus. In his eight years, he has only allowed 19 total sacks, in four more years than Taylor, with far fewer sacks and pressures.
Eric Fisher, LT, Dolphins
The former first-overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs still has some juice left and could be even better at the right tackle spot instead of left tackle. But, if he could play either, and he could play for fairly cheap. He was once dominant in Kansas City for really good teams, hopefully, he could help protect Trevor Lawrence.
