The Chiefs franchise guy is doing everything he can to make the newcomers feel welcomed.

One of the more surprising signings during free agency week came when the Chiefs signed Jawaan Taylor, a right tackle, as their left tackle of the future.

It wasn't the most surprising one though, as I'm sure Orlando Brown Jr. signing with the Cincinnati Bengals takes the cake for that label.

Taylor was formerly on the Jaguars, where he was their best player on the offensive line at times. The Chiefs struggled at times against him in their two matchups this last season. Now, he will be locking down Mahomes blind side for a bit, so we hope.

Speaking of Mahomes, the franchise quarterback has already talked to Taylor and is already making an impression on the new left tackle.

"I love the town," Taylor said, as this will be the first time living outside of Florida in his life. "I'm a guy who's laid back – I don't do much. I'm always at the house. It's definitely a place I can focus and just focus on ball and you know, I love the environment and the conversation with Coach Reid and Brett Veach. Everything went very well. It was an amazing time with those guys. They're very welcoming and accommodating to me and my family. I did have the opportunity to speak with Mahomes. He's a very great guy. I can tell already he's a great leader -a very laid-back guy. So, I can't wait to go out and battle with him."

Mahomes is doing exactly what he should be doing, and I'm sure Taylor will only become more and more fond of him the more they spend time together. It's hard not to like Mahomes, just because of how he is as a person and of course, how good he is at quarterback.

Sure, Taylor blocked for Trevor Lawrence, who is very good and will be a superstar in this league one day, but blocking for Mahomes is far different.

This is a two-time MVP, a two-time Super Bowl MVP, and the league's best player year in and year out. Mahomes reaching out to him will only get that chemistry built earlier.
