The McCourty brothers put on their reporting hats for the second time this offseason.

Newly retired safety Devin McCourty reported Saturday that safety/special teamer Cody Davis is re-signing with the New England Patriots in free agency on a one-year deal. McCourty retired after 13 seasons with the Patriots before free agency began.

Earlier last week, McCourty’s twin brother, retired cornerback Jason McCourty, reported that long snapper Joe Cardona was re-signing with the Patriots. Jason McCourty spent three seasons with the Patriots and won one Super Bowl, while Devin McCourty won three. Jason McCourty is a host on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football." Devin McCourty has filled in as a media analyst during the Patriots' bye week and in the postseason.

Davis, 33, is entering his fourth season with the Patriots. He missed most of last season with a knee injury. He played 78 percent of special teams snaps with New England in 2020 and 2021. New England has also signed or re-signed special teamers Cardona, Matthew Slater, Chris Board, Mack Wilson, Raekwon McMillan and Jabrill Peppers this offseason. Wilson, McMillan and Peppers also have roles on defense but played over half of spectial-teams snaps last season. Safety Brenden Schooler was a special-teams standout as a rookie in 2022.

The Patriots cut punter Jake Bailey and will be looking for a new punter/kickoff specialist. New England ranked last in special teams DVOA at Football Outsiders, so it makes sense that they’re reinvesting and making changes in the unit.
