Isaac Alarcon went undrafted in 2020 before the Dallas Cowboys brought him in as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. which allows players to compete for roster spots and help grow the league globally.

Alarcon has spent the last three seasons fighting to find his way as an offensive tackle, and he's even taking snaps at guard. However, he's been waived and signed back to the practice squad several times.

It was reported on Monday that Alarcon is taking another road to find his niche in the NFL as he's switching to defensive tackle in 2023.

Alarcon played some defensive snaps on the scout team last year, and he turned some heads.

"Issac is a big strong and athletic player and has physical skill set to play offensive line or defensive line," said Will McClay, the Cowboys' vice president of player personnel. "He did some things on scout team defense toward the end of the season that opened defensive coaches eyes to give him a serious look on defense. His time working with OL will also give him an understanding about what they are trying to do to him on defense."

At 6'7" and 320 pounds, Alarcon is an imposing figure. So, if he can find a way to contribute on defense, this could help the Cowboys immensely when it comes to stopping the run which is something they haven't always been good at over the last few seasons.

Another reason this would be a major plus for the Cowboys is with his size Alarcon would more than likely be a 1-tech defensive tackle (nose guard), something the Cowboys desperately need.

Alarcon isn't protected by the international player exemption any longer so this is the biggest season of his career. Fortunately, the Cowboys were able to keep him on their 90-man roster and the practice squad and not have him count toward the player limit.

The Cowboys could bring back Jonathan Hankins, and they should certainly give him a call. However, Alarcon finding his way with this switch would be a huge win for them.
