In free agency, we all wondered what would happen with the quarterback position with the Las Vegas Raiders. They let Derek Carr walk, they let Jarrett Stidham go to their division rival Denver Broncos.

Then they signed Jimmy Garoppolo, a move not many thought would happen. But after Tom Brady retired, and Aaron Rodgers announced he plans on playing for the New York Jets, the Raiders had just two options left: Jimmy G, or drafting a quarterback, which they could still do.

But, they still need a backup quarterback, and one media outlet thinks the Raiders could get a guy we all love, but no one wants on their team.

CBS Sports wrote out a list of teams who may be interested in former All-Pro and MVP quarterback Cam Newton. The Raiders were listed as the number one team. Here is what Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports had to say:

Yes, they just paid Jimmy Garoppolo to replace Derek Carr, and yes, they may pursue a successor early in the draft. But former undrafted rookie Chase Garbers, who's yet to make his NFL debut, is the only other QB in tow, and Garoppolo has stayed healthy for a full season just once in his nine-year career. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels worked with — and spoke highly of — Newton during their lone year together in New England, and Las Vegas could be eyeing multiple short-term swings at the position, knowing its real answer at QB may not come until 2024 or beyond.

If it were up to me, I think the Raiders should go after Newton, if he is willing to be a backup quarterback. If he isn't, obviously you wouldn't go after him.

Newton is a guy that may not have a ton of arm left, as he was once a pretty good thrower, but he still has some legs, as we saw when he was on the patriots and Panthers for his second stint in Carolina.

He could do the things Garoppolo can't do. The quarterback sneak packages would be perfect for Newton, and the same with the quarterback draw packages.

Plus, if Garoppolo was to get hurt, which happens far too often, the Raiders would feel confident with Newton in their scheme as he ran in New England. The move makes too much sense, but that doesn't mean it will happen.

He's got to commit to being a backup first.
