The Dallas Cowboys are trying to put together their best lineup for the offensive line. On Monday, they give a hint at the direction they may be going.
Veteran Chuma Edoga was signed to give the Cowboys some depth at guard and tackle with his versatility. Speaking of guard, the left side is where Dallas has an issue with Connor McGovern joining the Buffalo Bills.
TCU left guard Steve Avilla grew up in Arlington, Texas, and went to South Grand Prairie High School about 20 minutes outside of Dallas. He mentioned recently that he wouldn't mind staying close to the area.
"It would be honestly the best to stay home," Avila said. "I've been home my whole career. So we'll see if we can keep that streak going."
Avila was excellent in pass blocking in 2022 for the Horned Frogs. He didn't allow any sacks in 540 snaps and finished with a grade of 83.6 according to Pro Football Focus. Also, he gave up just two quarterback hits, nine hurries, and 11 pressures.
When it comes to run blocking, Avila uses his power to push guys to the second level and defenders have a hard time disengaging his blocks once he latches on to them. Also, Avila provides position flex with his experience playing center.
The Cowboys have several holes to fill. However, if Avila is there at 26, he will be hard to pass up depending on who is still on the board, and would likely be the starter if he's picked.
