The Dallas Cowboys once had the best offensive line in the NFL. From the looks of things, they're trying to regain that title.
TCU's Steve Avila, a powerful left guard, has been linked to the Cowboys quite a bit lately.
As a Dallas-born kid that grew up in Arlington and played his college ball in Fort Worth, Avila has expressed his interest in staying in the area for his NFL career. Well, it was announced on Wednesday that one of his top-30 visits will be with the Cowboys per RiseNDraft.com's Ryan Roberts.
Avila was consistent in his dominance when it came to pass blocking at TCU. He only allowed four sacks, four quarterback hits, 26 hurries, and 34 pressures in 1,170 pass-blocking reps for the Horned Frogs. Avila's best showing was in 2022 when he didn't give up any sacks and only gave up two quarterback hits, nine hurries, and 11 pressures.
When Avila went up against some of the best pass rushers coming out of college at the Senior Bowl, he was a beast. Avila's natural power and ability to not let defensive linemen disengage was on full display, and it's a huge reason why he's rising up draft boards.
If Avila were to be drafted by the Cowboys sometime in the first two rounds, he would immediately be the starter at left guard which would put him right beside the Cowboys' first-round selection from 2022 in Tyler Smith who played extremely solid at left tackle.
Keeping pressure off of any quarterback from the interior is key. So, Avila would give the Cowboys three good protectors along with All-Pro right guard Zack Martin and center Tyler Biadasz. Also, Avila has spent significant time at center and played right tackle as well, and the Cowboys love position flex.
Avila has become one of the popular selections for the Cowboys, and if he comes on board, the offensive line in Dallas would improve immediately.
