The Kansas City Chiefs have had the best offense over the last five years for a reason. Well, two reasons really. They have a guy named Patrick Mahomes throwing the ball to a guy named Travis Kelce, and they have Andy Reid.
There have always been conversations about Mahomes being good because he had Hill and Kelce, and now that we get into the best tight end debate, people like to use the fact that Mahomes is Kelce's quarterback.
Kelce is the undisputed best tight end in the league now, whereas it used to be he and George Kittle a few years ago. Now, Kelce has blown that competition out of the water. But, Kittle seems to think that if he were on the Chiefs and in that offense, he would be successful as well.
"I mean, dude, we're two completely different football players now. I, yes, I do think I'd be very successful, but it's like, it's very different, different football players," Kittle said on the Bussin with the Boys podcast. "But it's just like, well, one, his connection with Mahomes, like you can see like, from Mahomes rookie year to now, like the things that they do together, they'll just be like you have the middle of the hashes, get open in the timing of the play and he could run a basic.
"So, like, if you put me in the Chiefs offense like this year, I don't know if it would look exactly like it. I think I'm so, I know I'm a really good football player, but just their connection and how good they are together. Like that's one of the most unique relationships you can see on a football field."
Now, would Kittle still be successful? Of course, he is still a top-five tight end in the league. He is also a great route runner like Kelce. But, I think most of us agree that while he would have success, it wouldn't be close to what Kelce has done.
When I say what Kelce has done, I mean all the records he has already broken including seven straight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards.
As Kittle said, Mahomes and Kelce have a connection that if Kittle was dropped in the Chiefs' offense today, he and Mahomes wouldn't have.
