The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have to be close to perfect in free agency if they want to survive the coming months and years, and it currently looks like the franchise is doing just that to stay afloat.

Turbulent waters are ahead, but the team finding ways to bring in new players that could become upgrades on excellent deals is a good way to stay relevant in the short and long term.

Tampa's newest free agent kicker has received one such deal.

McLaughlin comes to the Buccaneers as a question mark. He obviously has a big leg and is coming off a good season in 2022, but is a guy kicking 83% in a dome worth the Bucs throwing money at, even if he is more accurate from deep than Ryan Succop?

The answer is uncertain for now, but that is the great part about this deal: the Bucs have basically nothing invested here.

If McLaughlin works out, the team has a better kicker with a better leg that costs way less than Succop.

If McLaughlin fails and loses his job in training camp, the Bucs can basically cut him for nothing and lose next to no cap space.

This deal is an excellent way for the Buccaneers to gamble without actually risking all that much.

Another great move by Jason Licht and company.
