The Dallas Cowboys decided that the first task at hand was to address their run defense in the NFL Draft and took defensive tackle Mazi Smith out of Michigan.

With the second and third rounds taking place on Friday, there's still an abundance of top talent left for the Cowboys to choose from, sort of a buffet of players so to speak.

In this Day 2 mock draft, the Cowboys bring in some more bodies at key positions of need.

Dallas Cowboys Day 2 Picks

Round 2, No.58 overall: Steve Avila, G, TCU

Avila played all five positions on the offensive line at TCU. However, the Cowboys need a left guard, and Avila logged 1,010 snaps there in 2022.

He excelled by not allowing a single sack and posted a grade of 83.6 in his 540 pass-blocking snaps according to Pro Football Focus. Also, he allowed just two quarterback hits, nine hurries, and 11 pressures.

Getting Avila would give the Cowboys an instant upgrade at left guard after the loss of Connor McGovern, and plug in their starter in that area for the foreseeable future.

Round 3, No.90 overall: Cory Trice, CB, Purdue

At 6’3″ and 206 pounds with 32 3/8″ inch arms, Trice is a prototypical cornerback for Dan Quinn’s scheme that runs a lot of Cover 1 and Cover 3 looks.

Trice thrives in press-man coverage and his 4.47 speed allows him to challenge vertical routes and use his exceptional ball skills and length.

Yes, the Cowboys traded for five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore. However, he's likely just a one-year plug, so getting Trice in to go along with All-Pro Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland would be huge.
