Why you can ABSOLUTELY build around Anthony Richardson: NFL Draft Film Breakdown
In this film breakdown, we take a look at Florida Gators QB Anthony Richardson. Richardson is an outstanding athlete with phenomenal physical traits for a QB.
He has the strongest arm of any QB prospect in this class, and has the mobility to be a legitimate dual-threat QB in the NFL, that you could compare to Lamar Jackson or Justin Fields. His tape shows me that there are still throws that he is uncomfortable making, which certainly causes concern. However, like Fields, his ability to run should help his development, still allowing him to be a weapon, while developing his arm fully.
Strengths:
- Size and athleticism: Richardson is a big and athletic quarterback, standing at 6'4" and weighing around 240 pounds. He is capable of making plays with his arm and legs and is a physical runner.
- Arm strength: Richardson has a strong arm and is capable of making all the throws required of a college quarterback, including deep passes and sideline throws.
- Accuracy: He has shown the ability to place the ball accurately, especially on intermediate routes.
- Playmaking ability: Richardson has a natural ability to create plays out of nothing, both as a passer and a runner. He has the ability to improvise and make things happen when plays break down.
Weaknesses:
- Inexperience: Richardson is still a relatively inexperienced quarterback, having played in only a handful of games at the college level.
- Decision-making: Richardson has shown some inconsistency in his decision-making, sometimes forcing throws into tight coverage or taking unnecessary risks.
- Footwork and mechanics: Richardson's footwork and mechanics can sometimes be inconsistent, leading to accuracy issues on occasion.
- Ball security: Richardson has had some issues with fumbling the ball, both in the pocket and as a runner. He will need to improve his ball security to avoid turnovers.
