The New York Giants entered the 2023 NFL Draft with a lot of questions to answer and a lot of holes to fill. They seem to have struck gold in the first round with their selection of Deonte Banks, then followed it up with a couple of excellent day-two picks in John Michael Schmitz and Jalen Hyatt, before finishing strong on day three.
With the draft now over, New York has already turned their attention to the priority free agent class of undrafted prospects, as they look to add even more players to their team.
So, who are the newest Giants from the 2023 NFL Draft? Let's take a look and find out.
New York Giants 2023 NFL Draft Class
Pick 24 from Jax: Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland

Banks was a perfect fit for New York, as they literally couldn’t wait any longer and moved up one spot to select the athletic marvel that roamed the secondary of the Terrapins. Now the Giants have a legitimate CB #1 and have the capacity to run the defense that Wink Martindale (defensive coordinator) wants to deploy on a week-in and week-out basis.
Round 2-No. 57 Overall: John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota

JMS was the top center on many boards and was a common mock to the Giants even in the first round at 25th overall. There was a chance the board fell that way, but instead, it favored the Giants who stayed put and selected the player they needed to sure up the interior.
Round 3-No. 73 Overall: Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee

Hyatt was the best pure deep threat in his class, with easy speed and acceleration. A top-five prospect in many evaluates eyes, the Giants weren’t going to wait any longer when they saw Hyatt positioned within striking range in round three, trading up from 89 to 73 to select the speedster from Tennessee.
Round 5-No. 172 Overall: Eric Gray, RB, Oklahoma

Gray comes to New York as an excellent value pick in the fifth round, thanks to a fall from his projected third round positioning. Gray will be a terrific player in the Giants’ rushing attack thanks to his ability to make tacklers miss and create big gains. Look for him to play a considerable role in 2023.
Round 6-No. 209 Overall: Tre Hawkins, CB, Ole Dominion

Hawkins was taken late in the sixth round by New York as they look to add more depth to their special teams with a “traitsy” specialist that has the potential makeup to be a solid piece at backup corner.
Round 7-No. 243 Overall: Jordan Riley, DT, Oregon

Riley is a massive human being, measuring in at 6’5 and nearly 340 pounds at the Oregon Pro Day. He is an obvious choice to be a nose tackle in New York’s 3-4 defense and could be a solid addition if he turns out to be a successful late-round flyer.
Round 7-No. 254 Overall: Gervarrius Owens, S, Houston

Owens won’t blow you away athletically or with otherworldly body measurements but he’s a solid player and was productive for the Houston Cougars. He left college recording career highs in tackles, forced fumbles, and pass breakups last season.
- Round 1, No. 24 overall (from JAX): Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland
- Round 2, No. 57 overall: John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota
- Round 3, No. 73 overall: (from LAR via HOU) Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
- Round 5, No. 172 overall: Erick Gray, RB, Oklahoma
- Round 6, No. 209 overall: Tre Hawkins, CB, Ole Dominion
- Round 7, No. 243 overall: Jordon Riley, DT, Oregon
- Round 7, No. 254 overall: Gervarrius Owens, S, Houston
Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll knew that this roster needed to be upgraded despite their success last season. They approached the draft accordingly, adding key players at corner, center, and wide receiver.
It will be at least three seasons before we can evaluate this draft in conclusion, but early returns are promising given the fact that no one would have batted an eye if Schmitz, Hyatt, or Banks all were the pick at 25 on night one.
So the fact that the front office managed to select all three, and then add solid day three pieces like Eric Gray and Gervarrius Owens, the brass deserves a pat on the back.
