The Dallas Cowboys are looking to get back to the playoffs for the third consecutive season. The NFL Draft has been a big resource for Dallas over recent years with their tendency to hit on first-rounders as well as some mid-round steals.

Dallas made eight selections in the 2023 NFL Draft. The biggest needs coming were left guard, linebacker, tight end, cornerback, and running back. Needs were filled, but the Cowboys could have addressed some things earlier than they did.

So, with that being said, here's a look at the Cowboys' post-draft roster. Note: Single asterisks (*) represent 2023 draft picks and double asterisks (**) represent undrafted free agents.

Quarterback

  • Dak Prescott
  • Cooper Rush
  • Will Grier

The skinny: Prescott is the unquestioned leader of the quarterback room, and will take every meaningful snap unless there's an unfortunate injury. Rush has the QB2 role locked up and has also shown the ability to win games if Prescott is out. Grier is your typical third-string quarterback that will only be used in the preseason more than likely.

  • Running back

    • Tony Pollard
    • Ronald Jones
    • Malik Davis
    • Rico Dowdle
    • Deuce Vaughn *
    • Hunter Luepke **

The skinny: The new leader of the running back room, Pollard, is currently recovering from a broken leg. However, once he's back to normal, he'll resume RB1 duties. Jones has more experience than Davis or Dowdle, but he's coming off of an injury-plagued campaign. Vaughn's speed and elusiveness will be hard to keep off the roster, and Luepke is another weapon that'll fight for a roster spot.

    Wide receiver

    • CeeDee Lamb
    • Michael Gallup
    • Brandin Cooks
    • Jalen Tolbert
    • KaVontae Turpin
    • Simi Fehoko
    • Dontario Drummond
    • Dennis Houston
    • Antonio Callaway
    • Jalen Brooks *
    • David Durden **
    • Jalen Moreno-Cropper **
    • Jose Barbon **

The skinny: Lamb has turned into an All-Pro level receiver, he's the clear No.1 option. Cooks is an excellent second option with his speed and versatility, and a healthy Gallup on the outside makes it a formidable trio. Turpin started with a spark last summer, but it cooled down quickly. Tolbert is looking to bounce back from a difficult rookie campaign, and Fehoko is still trying to find his way.

    Tight end

    • Jake Ferguson
    • Peyton Hendershot
    • Sean McKeon
    • Seth Green
    • Luke Schoonmaker *
    • Princeton Fant **

The skinny: The new day in the Cowboys' tight end room is here with Dalton Schultz being a distant memory. Ferguson and Hendershot showed tremendous upside in 2022 as pass catchers and blockers, and McKeon has shown some game when healthy. Schoonmaker may be a second-round pick, but his journey to earn a role will be difficult.

    Offensive line

    • Zack Martin
    • Tyron Smith
    • Tyler Smith
    • Terence Steele
    • Tyler Biadasz
    • Josh Ball
    • Matt Waletzko
    • Matt Farniok
    • Chuma Edoga
    • Alex Taylor
    • Asim Richards *
    • Brock Hoffman
    • Earl Bostick **

The skinny: Martin, Tyler Smith, and Biadasz are locked in to start. For Tyron Smith, it's simply how many games can he give the Cowboys because history says he'll miss time. Steele has shown himself to be an underrated right tackle, but he's coming off a torn ACL, and there have been rumblings of playing him at guard. Richards will battle at left guard and at tackle to carve out a role.

    Defensive line

    • Micah Parsons
    • DeMarcus Lawrence
    • Osa Odighizuwa
    • Neville Gallimore
    • Quinton Bohanna
    • Dorance Armstrong
    • Chauncey Golston
    • Dante Fowler
    • Sam Williams
    • Johnathan Hankins
    • Mazi Smith *
    • Viliami Fehoko *
    • Isaac Alarcon
    • Durrell Johnson **
    • Isaiah Land **

The skinny: There's not much to complain about with the Cowboys' edge rushers, that group is solid. On the interior, there still needs to be more, especially against the run, which is why Smith was drafted. However, the Cowboys are pretty solid on their defensive line overall.

    Outside linebacker

    • Damon Clark
    • Jabril Cox
    • DeMarvion Overshown
    • Takk McKinley
    • Tyrus Wheat **

The skinny: Clark proved plenty of folks wrong after showing great flashes last despite having spinal fusion surgery. 2021 rookie Cox and current rookie Overshown have a world of potential and will take this group to unforeseen levels if they maximize their talent.

    Inside linebacker

    • Leighton Vander Esch
    • Devin Harper
    • Malik Jefferson

The skinny: Vander Esch has had back-to-back solid seasons thanks to being healthy for the most part. Harper didn't log a single defensive snap in his first year but contributed some on special teams. Jefferson hasn't played a snap since 2021, so his road to a roster spot won't be without struggle.

    Cornerback

    • Trevon Diggs
    • Stephon Gilmore
    • DaRon Bland
    • Jourdan Lewis
    • Kelvin Joseph
    • Nahshon Wright
    • Eric Scott *
    • C.J. Goodwin

The skinny: The acquisition of Gilmore and pairing him with Diggs gives the Cowboys an elite starting duo and is arguably the best move of the offseason by the team. Bland was sensational as a rookie last season and will look to secure the slot corner role over Lewis.

    Safety

    • Donovan Wilson
    • Jayron Kearse
    • Malik Hooker
    • Israel Mukuamu
    • Markquese Bell
    • Tyler Coyle
    • Juanyeh Thomas

The skinny: Wilson, Kearse, and Hooker can make a case for being the best three-headed monster at safety in the NFL. Mukuamu played some valuable snaps at cornerback last season, and Bell will look to have another promising summer and earn some meaningful snaps this time around.

    Special teams

    • Trent Sieg (LS)
    • Bryan Anger (P)
    • Tristan Vizcaino(K)

The skinny: After losing two-time Pro Bowl long snapper Jake McQuaide, the Cowboys made Sieg the new top guy in that regard. Anger is in his third season with Dallas and has been a solid punter, averaging a career-best 44.6 yards per kick when he made the Pro Bowl in 2021. Vizcaino was brought in after the ways things ended badly with Bret Maher.
