The Kansas City Chiefs have been in the rumor mill with one of their former starters, and things could change soon. Based on what we are hearing from the Chiefs general manager, he wants to show that he has a future in Kansas City.
If you don't really know what I'm referring to, the Chiefs former first round pick running back in Clyde Edwards-Helaire got injured and lost his starting job to Isiah Pacheco. Since then, everyone has realized that Pacheco might be the guy moving forward, especially after the Super Bowl run.
Since then CEH has been the guy that has been in trade rumors. He is a guy that other teams want, mainly because he showed that when he is fully healthy he can catch out of the backfield and run the ball.
On Monday, general manager Brett Veach let everyone know that VEH was eager.
"Clyde was actually the first guy here.. he is in great shape," Veach said during his post-draft press conference. ""He's a good football player, he's going to help us out…"
So what does that mean? Does that mean they plan on keeping him around? Or maybe they want to trade him at the deadline or even before the season starts. May 2 is the deadline for teams to pick up the fifth-year option on players drafted in 2020 which would be Edwards-Helaire.
If he gets it declined, which we will likely find out late on Monday or on Tuesday, we could see him traded or even kept, and possibly have a huge season out of him to boost his value in the free agency market.
Letting everyone know he was the first guy there over players like Mahomes, Chris Jones, and other guys that are known for being gym rats and guys who always work out, is important. He is showing that he has some value and some worth.
