The Chicago Bears had 84 players on their roster heading into rookie minicamp, so, there was plenty of reason to think some of their tryouts that attended rookie camp would make the roster.

And sure enough, some did. Per KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the Bears signed four tryout players after the conclusion of rookie camp: EDGE D'Anthony Jones, tight end Stephen Carlson, offensive lineman Josh Lugg, and defensive back Bralen Trahan.

Keep an eye on D'Anthony Jones

Let's be real. With all due respect, these guys are not likely to make the final roster and most likely destined for the practice squad.

That doesn't mean people should sleep on them, though.

That's especially true when it comes to Jones. The former Houston Cougar finished 2022 with a team-leading 8.0 sacks, 13.5 tackles for loss, and five forced fumbles. His 28 solo tackles cracked the top-5 mark, as well, which is pretty impressive for a defensive lineman.

Jones is undersized at 6-foot-2, 270-pounds, and he doesn't have the ideal athleticism the NFL covets. But, he makes all of that up with a never-ending motor and a play-style that can be described as intense, even at its lowest points.

The Bears need help on the outside, too. Sure, there are promising options in free agent addition DeMarcus Walker, fourth-year player Trevis Gipson, and second-year player Dominique Robinson, but things are pretty spotty behind them. The competition is wide-open when it comes to that EDGE4 position.

Who knows, a strong summer could put Jones on track to last through final cuts. It's certainly a story to pay attention to over the coming weeks and months.
