It has been a very long time since a preseason felt like this for the Detroit Lions. Decades of mediocrity have made it feel like it has been forever since this franchise could finally turn it around and emerge as the team the fanbase deserves.

Last season started to show the sparks of a change. A great end to the season after a shaky start created hope, but every fan knew how important free agency and the draft would be to ensuring this team would take the next steps.

Well, after a great free agency class and a good showing in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Lions are ready to compete for a deep run in a very weak NFC.

Anyone that has shown this team any attention over the past year knows how big this team is about to be. The NFL schedule reflects that perfectly.

It is clear that the schedule-makers knew what they were doing when they put this together. Four games in primetime (one is the season opener against the defending Super Bowl champs) with another on Saturday at the end of the season means there are going to be a lot of televisions on with Lions games across the nation this year.

Again, it is impossible to say the Lions haven't done everything possible to win off the field. The team is prepared and ready to be one of the best Lions teams ever if they can take care of business in a schedule like this, and doing it in these big opportunities on primetime are a good way to gain even more recognition.

The schedule release and primetime game schedule may not matter in the grand scheme of things if the team doesn't show up and ready to play, but it is still at least nice to see the NFL acknowledge that this team should be for real in 2023.

Perhaps all those years of pain are finally over.
