The New England Patriots announced exciting news Thursday that retired quarterback Tom Brady will return to be honored at halftime in a Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
But Brady could be more invested — literally — in another team.
ESPN's Adam Schefter and Seth Wickersham reported Friday that Brady is "in deep discussions to become a limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders."
Brady is already a minority owner of the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces with Raiders owner Mark Davis.
There were plenty of jokes that Brady already owned the Raiders with a 6-1 career record against Oakland/Las Vegas, including the divisional-round playoff win during the 2001 postseason that's either referred to as the Snow Bowl or Tuck Rule Game depending on which side of the coast you reside. It seems doubtful that Brady would ever refer to his incompletion as a fumble, however.
Brady would, to some degree, become Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels' boss. McDaniels was Brady's long-time offensive coordinator in New England. Las Vegas also rosters former Patriots quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Brian Hoyer, running back Brandon Bolden, fullback Jakob Johnson, wide receivers DeAndre Carter, Philip Dorsett, Chris Lacy and Jakobi Meyers, offensive linemen Jermaine Eluemunor and Justin Herron and defensive linemen Adam Butler and Chandler Jones.
There are a number of former Patriots coaches and executives on staff, as well, including general manager Dave Ziegler, senior national scout DuJuan Daniels, offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi, quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree, tight ends coach Jerry Schuplinski, offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo, defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, senior defensive assistant Rob Ryan ad coaching assistant/returners coach Danny Amendola.
So, it's fair to say the Raiders are already the Desert Patriots. Brady joining ownership would only take that label to another level.
Brady appeared in a surprise cameo at the end of New England's schedule release video Thursday night.
