The offseason has been a great time to be a fan of the Detroit Lions. The team has been in the limelight for weeks for *mostly* good decisions, and the positioning of this team makes it look like this could be the best year for the franchise in decades.

Lions fans can be very happy and rest assured that the future is bright, but the same can't be said for all of the players. A team making moves like this means some guys are going to lose their spots or their jobs, and calling it out now just makes players look like they aren't ready for the competition.

Cornerback Jerry Jacobs is one such player that has probably been the loudest, and it makes sense why. The Lions went in deep on their secondary in free agency and the draft, and while it looks like they plan on using five DBs more often than not, Jacobs has a chance to be the odd man out.

Cameron Sutton is an obvious starter at corner, C.J. Gardner Johnson is going to get a lot of reps across the field, the safeties look like they are set with Tracy Walker and Kerby Joseph, and Brian Branch looks like another guy that could get reps in more than one position.

This likely leaves a competition between Jacobs and free agent addition Emmanuel Moseley for the other pure corner spot, but you can still rest assured that a defense like this will see rotation to keep the best players fresh and on the field.

That fact that a competition will happen and that some see Moseley as the better option hasn't sat well with Jacobs.

Now, to be fair to Jacobs, he is coming off a decent season where there was a lot of upside in his coverage abilities. Penciling in Moseley as the obvious starter is only happening because the media loves to run with new additions and players that switch teams via free agency and trades.

Still, Jacobs doesn't need to call out every post that has him beneath Moseley. Anyone that has a Twitter has seen this happen more than once so far this offseason.

This is just a strange look. It gives off the impression that there is already animosity within the room, and that isn't what Lions fans want to see from a unit that will need depth guys to step up when called on. Whether that player is Jacobs or Moseley matters little, it just matters that they're willing to accept the role and not cause issues.

The best thing for Jacobs to do at this point is stop calling it out when he sees it and let his game talk for itself. If he wins the job, pointing to comments like this isn't going to lead to a cohesive corner room. If he loses the job, comments like this will just get thrown in his face and again make things worse.

Everyone who has ever been a competitor knows where Jacobs is coming from in a situation like this, but everyone involved would be better off if this stopped happening soon. The only thing that matters in 2023 is team success. That doesn't happen if people shy away from competition or take it too personal.

As hard as it might be, Jerry Jacobs just needs to shut it down and find a different way to end these comments.
