The New Orleans Saints spent their first two selections of the 2023 NFL Draft on defensive line prospects. Bryan Bresee and Isaiah Foskey look like they will be useful players for the Saints in the future, but upside on the DL is always important in the NFL. A major move for a former first-round selection would make sense for New Orleans, according to Bleacher Report.
BR named the Saints as a potential landing spot in a trade for former second overall pick Chase Young.
Young was the 2020 Rookie of the Year, but he hasn't quite hit his ceiling with the Washington Commanders. A duo of Young and veteran Cameron Jordan could be special for the Saints.
Albert Breer discussed the Commanders' current situation with Young. It makes plenty of sense, too. Washington has a lot of depth along the DL, and Young is due for a contract extension soon.
"The Commanders have already paid Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen on the interior of the defensive line, and giving two more pass rushers, in Young and Montez Sweat, big contracts might be tough. So as Young tries to prove he can get healthy and back to himself again, he and Sweat might be competing for the last spot." — Breer
Bleacher Report broke down their potential trade package between the Saints and Commanders. New Orleans was one of five teams listed as landing spots for the edge rusher.
New Orleans Saints receive: DE Chase Young and a 2024 third-round pick
Washington Commanders receive: 2024 second-round pick, 2024 sixth-round pick and DE Payton Turner
This price for Young would be great for the Saints. Young provides the potential that New Orleans has been looking for in a young edge rusher. Plus, he could work alongside Bryan Bresee off the edge as youthful talents.
In actuality, it may be a tad more expensive for the Saints to acquire him. Regardless, if he's available, a call from Mickey Loomis wouldn't hurt anything for the Saints.
