Minicamp and OTAs are a time for guys who aren't established to make a name for themselves. It's a time for the rookies or undrafted players, and even bubble or fringe roster guys, to show they belong. The Chiefs have had some guys do that, but they have also had some guys show the opposite or even do what they were supposed to, but someone just did better.

Guys like Deneric Prince, an undrafted free-agent rookie, have made a name for themselves. He would be classified as a winner. But, sadly, there are some losers too.

Chiefs losers from offseason workouts

Lucas Niang has been someone who could be on these loser list the last few years. Not because he is a loser, but because the most unlucky things have happened to him. Niang, when he has had the chance to play, has been fine. He hasn't been terrible, and has actually showed some good moments.

But, because of the things that have happened around him, he has to be on this list. The Chiefs signed Jawaan Taylor to play right tackle at a huge contract, and then later signed Donovan Smith to play left tackle. This immediately puts Niang behind, once again not having the ability to fight for that starting spot.

Not to mention, he has to battle Wanya Morris for the second spot now.

The emergence of undrafted free agent running back Deneric Prince has been one that we can't deny, is pretty damn cool. But now that means someone else is likely going to get left behind. The Chiefs often times carry three running backs on the active game day roster, and they currently have two that will undoubtedly make the roster in Isiah Pacheco, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

The way things are trending for Prince, it looks like he could get that third spot. Perine has shown in the past that he can play when he was with the New York Jets. But, the past is the past, and by the looks of it, he didn't show more than Prince.

Much like Niang, Morris comes in as a "loser" from Chiefs offseason workouts, for the same reasons. Now he has two guys in front of him. Morris was drafted in the third round of this past draft. At the time we thought he was going to be the Chiefs right tackle of the future, because they hadn't yet signed Smith.

Taylor was going to be the left tackle for the 2023 season, which meant Morris just had to compete with Niang. Now, after hearing all the coaches rave over Smith and his professionalism. Now he will have to just continue to work his butt off and maybe next year he will be ready.

Picking three losers from a Chiefs team that just won the Super Bowl was tough, but no one is perfect, and no team is perfect. They have things that could be worked on as well. Just because these guys are "losers" after offseason workouts don't mean they can't have a good year. You never truly know what will happen in the season.
