Are the Lions teasing the return of black uniforms?

Listen, we're all humans and we all go through similar human behaviors. One of the more common human behavior's is to read into something. We all do it. We all also tend to read too much into things and see something that maybe we want to see or, at times, things we don't want to see. This week a lot of people in the Detroit Lions world did just that when the Lions put a picture of their new helmet on Twitter with an interesting caption.

Ok, so maybe the Lions are not saying anything at all. Maybe they're just uploading a picture of their new helmet against against a black background and that's it. Yeah, that's probably all this is.

Hold on for just a second while I put my conspiracist hat on.

There's no way it can be just that. We've all seen the helmet. The whole world has seen the helmet. It was covered by every source. Why put a picture of it up with that caption at this point? Just like the mashed potato sculpture in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, this means something. This is important.

We know there's a new helmet, but we also know that the Lions are planning on getting new uniforms in 2024. Perhaps this is a hint that the Lions will go from their silver pajamas to a new all black color rush look. It's something the team has toyed with before.

These were supposed to be the Lions original color rush jerseys when the NFL introduced the concept back in 2016, they were only meant to be worn on Thursday night games. The Lions didn't play a Thursday nigh game that season and they never wore these during a game. The Lions then updated their look and the silver pajamas were born.

If the Lions can go with a look like like this and pair it with their throwback helmet, that could be pretty sharp. I ultimately think it would look better with the Lions throwback jerseys they usually wear on Thanksgiving, the blue in the jersey could really pop with a blue helmet.

Lions fans are pretty split on the whole black jersey thing. There's some that believe that it's nothing more than a relic of the Matt Millen era. For me, I think that team would have lost no matter what color jersey's they were wearing. I think it's a cool look and the Lions should bring it back.

Update: a Lions fan on Twitter took a tour through the facility as a season ticket member this week and noticed something missing.
